We've long admired Microsoft's Flight Simulator,but we never imagined it would inspire a desktop quite like the $3,450 iBuypower Gamer FS-X . We loved the elaborate applique of images from Flight Simulator X on our test unit's case, as well as the front 250mm fan made to resemble a jet engine, even if it didn't work (The side 250mm fan did, however.) But the applique was peeling and improperly aligned, preventing our easily opening the case. Once we succeeded, we were impressed with the desktop's cleanly designed interior containing two 250GB hard drives, an nVidia 8800 GTX graphics card, DVD-ROM and DVD±RW drives, and a 12-format flash-memory-card reader all connected with toolless mechanisms requiring no screwdriver. Also included are a 20-inch wide-scieen ViewSonic monitor, a gaming keyboard and mouse, and a three-year limited warranty with lifetime tech support.The installed OS is Vista Home Premium.The components is the first we have examined with AMD's fresh Quad-FX platform (in this case, the Quad-FX74 paired with 2GB of RAM), which combines two dual-core proces sors to achieve quad-core-like performance.
